To provide an excellent instructional and competitive environment aimed at developing highly skilled hockey players of strong character through on-ice and off-ice training using professional instructors and coaches that teach the game of hockey as well as the life lessons of team sports to develop our student athletes to their fullest potential.

​OUR CLUB LEAGUE AND DISTRICT  
West Ranch Hockey Club participates in the Los Angeles Kings High School Hockey League (LAKHSHL) representing players in grades 9 through 12 from high schools in the Santa Clarita Valley, the Antelope Valley and the northern San Fernando Valley. ​​OUR HISTORY
 
2014: Our co-founders, Jason McNamara and Stacey Titter, officially began the journey of bringing high school hockey to Santa Clarita in the summer of 2014. Meetings were held with the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League, which had just completed its fifth season of high school hockey in Orange County. During the fall of 2014, meetings were held with the William S. Hart School District and West Ranch Hockey Administration who enthusiastically supported bringing high school hockey to West Ranch High School. Student parent and interest meetings followed, creating a buzz around campus and the local hockey community about a pure West Ranch high school hockey team, pure meaning the team was made up entirely of West Ranch High School students.
 
2015: In March of 2015 we achieved another exciting milestone when over 30 players participated in on-ice and off-ice evaluations. The excitement continued to grow in April of 2015 when the Los Angeles Kings announced their decision to support and accelerate the growth of high school hockey in Southern California. With this announcement, the LAKHSHL was born and we accepted their invitation for our West Ranch Wildcats to become the first pure varsity high school hockey team to join the league for their inaugural 2015-16 high school hockey season.
 
2015-16: Our inaugural Varsity team played and won the very first game in West Ranch Hockey and LAKHSHL history on September 27, 2015. Our Varsity players have many fond memories from our inaugural season, including participating in the West Ranch High School fall sports pep rally along with the LA Kings Ice Crew, mascot, Bailey and Fox Sports West reporter Carrlyn Bathe. Another fond memory was West Ranch Hockey night at a Kings game where Jim Fox, former Kings player and current LA Kings game announcer hosted our players and West Ranch High School Principal Mr. Crawford got to ride the Zamboni. Our Varsity team ended the 2015-16 regular season with a record of 11-4. All Varsity players earned a letter for playing the sport they loved while representing West Ranch Wildcat pride.
 
2016-17: During the 2016-17 season, our Varsity team continued to participate as a pure team in the LAKHSHL and also played an additional 11 games against teams in the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League Varsity division, including Santa Margarita, Orange Lutheran, JSerra and more. Our Varsity team traveled to Minnesota in January of 2017 to play against high school hockey teams in Minnesota and experience pond hockey in Wisconsin, a dream of all California high school hockey players. Beginning with the 2016-17 season, the LAKHSHL expanded to include a Junior Varsity (JV) division and our West Ranch Hockey program also grew by adding a JV team to our program. Our JV team made it to the Championship game that season, but lost to the Santa Barbara Royals.
 
2017-18: During the 2017-18 season, we created a new prep team made up of Varsity and other players and as a result, our Varsity players played a 50 game season!  Our varsity team made its second trip to Minnesota and Wisconsin. We also had our largest graduating class with five West Ranch student athletes graduating. Check out our Alumni page to see where many of our 2018 and other graduates moved on to continue to play hockey beyond their high school hockey careers.
 
2018-19: The 2018-19 season is the first season West Ranch transitioned from a pure team to a district team. The other local high school district teams, the Santa Clarita Cobras and Valencia Vikings, were no longer in existence and the Wildcats becoming a district team provided an opportunity for all players in Santa Clarita to continue to play high school hockey. Because of this opportunity, we were able to form three teams this season, one varsity team and two JV teams. 

2019-20: The 2019-20 season was the fifth season (out of five seasons) the varsity team made it to the playoffs. Our JV team also made it to the playoffs this season with a record of 13-3. Their win in the semi-finals earned them a spot in the Championship game where they experienced a tough loss to the Strikers. It was a successful season and we are looking forward to continued success during the 2020-21 season as well as many of our JV players moving up to the Varsity team.

2020-21: From challenge to championship, this was the season that almost didn't happen due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the closing of our home rink. In March of 2020 just a few weeks after the end of our 2019-20 season our home rink Ice Station Valencia closed its doors forever. Our West Ranch Hockey Staff quickly jumped into action and worked with members of our local rink community to save our beloved home rink. From setting up an online petition that garnered nearly 27,000 signatures to a parking lot car parade and speaking at the City of Santa Clarita Council Meetings, we did whatever was necessary to ensure our club and local community would not have to travel out of our hometown to pursue our passion. Fast forward to August of 2020 when the Santa Clarita City Council unanimously voted to buy the rink to ensure current and future generations would receive all the benefits a local rink brings. The next milestone in this year of uncertainties came in March of 2021 when California and LA County finally allowed the return of youth sports. We again jumped into action and worked closely with the LA Kings HS Hockey League (LAKHSHL) to plan a mini season, including ensuring all league teams had a process for the required weekly COVID testing before each game. Our Varsity Wildcats ended the regular mini season undefeated and in 1st place with a record of 4 - 0. Our JV Cats ended the season in 2nd place with a record of 2 - 2. While the mini season games were held at Iceoplex Simi Valley, semi-finals and finals were held at our home rink, now reopened under the ownership of the City of Santa Clarita and operated by ASEC and the Kings and called The Cube. What a thrill it was to be back on our home ice at The Cube after 434 days since our last game at our home rink. Both Varsity and JV won their semi-final games, earning trips to the Championship games. Varsity beat the Santa Barbara Royals 5 - 2 in an exciting final resulting in us being crowned the LAKHSHL Varsity Division Champions! The first Championship won by West Ranch Hockey in our history. Our JV Cats battled hard as well with heart and left it all on the ice, falling just short and losing to the El Segundo Strikers 4 - 5. We are incredibly proud of how our players rose to the challenge during the pandemic and came out on the other side stronger, which is a testament to their character of not only great hockey players, but great human beings.
